Oscar should have won by ko, I haven't seen the fight, was he just trying to get rounds?
Truthfully...Is Oscar READY for Mayweather Jr?

We all saw Saturdays performance against former Super Featherweight Champ Steve Forbes... And after a careful assessment, can we assume that The Golden Boy has no chance againt Mayweather Jr? Judging from the looks of his face...I would have to say no...others may disagree. Give your opinion.
So its not as if oscar fought someone who has never made any type of name for himself or someone who has never been in against any decent competition.
I think a lot of the reason forbes didnt look as bad as oscar was supposed to make him look is because it was a "tune-up" fight and oscar and team were trying some new tactics...
the way he fought on saturday is a way we havent seen him fight in a long time. he had GREAT endurance/stamina (compared to his stamina of his last 3-5 fights); he looked relaxed, focused, and sharp.
the only things i seen that bother me about his performance was his reflexes werent as good; timing a little off; and speed wasnt there.
so that means oscar is going to have to work on his timing and rely on that to beat floyd. oscar (i believe) will fight floyd differently this next time around. i think he's going to sit back a little more and put JUST ENOUGH pressure on floyd to make him swing and just sit back and counter floyd.
i dont expect ocsar to chase him around as much this time; (since i know; you know; and oscar knows) he faded down the stretch. oscar still counters decently and i think thats going to be the gameplan this time.
Everyone and their mother says, "pressure floyd, pressure floyd" but i dont think thats going to be the key this time. i think oscar should continue where he left off in this last fight. he looked really good on his toes for the first time in a long time; the jab was working great (in my opinion); he didnt fade; etc.
so maybe with floyd sr back in his corner they might be coming up with the right gameplan.
forget the quality of opponent for a moment...
this back to how oscar looked for the floyd fight with roach in his corner to how he looked saturday night with floyd back in his corner.
oscar looked much more refreshed, on his toes, and full of energy compared to a year ago against floyd.
against floyd oscar looked his age; tired; slow; etc.
while his speed isnt all that great he did look much younger so i think floyd sr is working him properly and i have confidence that at this age oscar is as ready for floyd as a 35 year old man can be.Comment

Oscar appeared to be trying to just put in work.
He also looked to be trying new things (that he and floyd sr had decided on) and for at least the first 9 rounds or so i believe he was just simulating the things floyd sr had worked with him on in training.
during the last couple of rounds it looked like oscar was looking to counter forbes with a good left hook but the oppertunity never really came.
Like i said before the fight; i didnt believe oscar was going to go in there and try to put forbes away early or even in the middle rounds...
oscar needed to get those stamina issues resolved and need the fight to go into the championship rounds to see if he can last...
and i believe thats basically what he did on saturday...put in the work for a good 10 rounds and THEN looked like he was an animal waiting for a chance to attack.
it was a tune-up fight and i think many people on this forum are making a bigger thing out of it than it needs to be.
the scorecards were:
11 rounds to 1; 11 rounds to 1; and 12 rounds to none.
so that should tell the story there.
and as far as stamina goes i think the problem was solved considering in the (i belive it was) 10th round he had his punch output high of the fight...Comment

Oscar did look good against Forbes, but then again he was hand picked for Oscar. I don't know that he will remain that relaxed when he has a real threat in front of him. The fight had a sparring match type feeling to it. I think Oscar is as ready as he's going to be but I just don't think that it'll be enough to beat Floyd.Comment

That's why he stopped throwing it..
Bodyshots and quick right-hands did the trick..
Quit acting like Oscar forgot his jab or lost it in between rounds..Comment

Oscar looked really good in the Forbes fight. If he can continue...and even improve his conditioning some more, he will have a great chance to win the Mayweather fight. No question De La Hoya will get hit much harder by Mayweather, but if he stays busy and keeps the pressure on he can win. Although Mayweather is very good at making adjustments and his conditioning is excellent. Should be another close fight.Comment
