This goes to show the Yanks how big boxing is in the UK and Europe as a whole.

Calzaghe sold over 30,000 for Manfredo and 50,000 for Kessler, and Hatton just sold over 50,000 for Lazcano. The UK also has only about 1/4 of the population as the USA. Klitschko, Kessler and others also draw large live gates in Germany, Denmark and Russia. This is why you will start to see more and more Americans coming to Europe to fight. No longer will a fighter "have" to fight in America to prove himself, but Americans and others will "have" to fight in Europe to prove themselves and get the big paydays. I see many top fights being fought in Europe and being broadcast live to the States.

oscar's name alone sold the tickets...

oscar could have been fighting almost anyone and i believe he would have sold 20K at worst...

its because it was near his home city (right outside of LA) and the fans know his career is winding down and more than likely it would be the last time he fights so close to home (floyd v. oscar and oscar's last fight will more than likely be in vegas and on PPV).

yeah and there use to pimping people. No fighter will go over there when guys like Hatton want to control the whole gate. Thats what happened with the Harris fight. There spoiled because there use to doing that in there own Country but a top fighter or even a solid guy wont come over there for that

First of all Osca DIDN'T sell 27,000 tickets so that nullifies the argument there. A lot of the mid level tickets were GIVEN away by various sponsors.

Be that as it may, I'm certain in the same situation in Grand Rapids that yes, Floyd could do 27,000 if it were held at Grand Valley St Football stadium which is the only arena that could accommodate that size.

If you make an event affordable for Joe Regular, the people will show up. Case in point, Cory Spinks vs. Zab Judah attracted 20K in st. louis so I don't see why it's a stretch to believe Floyd couldn't get the same amount when his profile has increased.
