What era do you think was better overall for boxing? I was not part of the 80's so i can't comment on it.

well I was just a kid in the 80's but it seems to have been the better era in a historical sense. Meaning that 30 yrs from now 80's fighters will be looked upon as overall greater w/ guys like Tyson, Holmes, Spinks, Pryor, Hagler, SRL, Hearns..etc.

But I cut my teeth with 90's boxing so I'm really partial to the RJJ's and Toneys. Good question TS, I dont know for certain, maybe a newer or older fan can shed some light on what popular opinion is

Both the 80s and 90s were great eras for boxing. I couldn't split them.

In the 80s you had the fab four Leonard, Hagler, Hearns, Duran. The heavies had Holmes dominating 80-85 then Tyson 86-90.

Other great fighters of the decade were Barry McGuigan, Mike McCullum, Wilfred Benitez, Lloyd Honeyghan, Nigel Benn, Michael Watson, Julio Cesar Chavez.

Of course the 90s had the Bowe, Holyfield trilogy, Mike Tyson's comback, the domination of Lennox Lewis.

The lighter weights had tallents such as Roy Jones, Gerald McClellan, Bernard Hopkins, Oscar De La Hoya, Pernell Whitakker, Shane Mosley, the eccentric Chris Eubank and Naseem Hamed.

      Put simply..............both great eras!

well my father told me the GOLDEN ERA of boxing was the 80's.

he said the welterweight, middleweight, superbatamweight, lightwe ight, and heavyweight were fights that u could never miss.

he told me thou that the 70's heavyweights were the best of all time.

To be honest all the decades were great except the one we are in now...........its not too bad but the heavyweight division is a little weak and a good heavyweight division helps to carry the sport.

Also, the fact that true stars of last decade such as Hopkins, De La Hoya, Roy Jones, Shane Mosley, Felix Trinidad, Barrera and Moralles have been landing huge fights gets in the way of legacies of the true stars of this decade such as Mayweather, Calzaghe, Cotto or Pacquiou.

In hindsight the gap between Jack Dempsey and Joe Louis in the 20s and 30s was a little weak too historically.

It's hard to pick. Both decades were very good times for boxing but I'll give the edge to the 80's. I think there were better fights and fighters at the time.

But the 90's had some great moments and some very good fighters, no doubt.
