By Cliff Rold - On the evening of June 16, 2007, 2004 Olympic Bronze Medalist Andre Dirrell (15-0, 10 KO) won a decision over prospect Curtis Stevens that was universally decried as one of the worst performances ever televised, a dull track meet in place of a fight.
In super middleweight action Friday night at the Chumash Casino, Santa Ynez, California, the 25-year old Dirrell took a big step towards overcoming the objections the Stevens fight produced.
Exhibiting the speed, power and charisma that marked him as a must-see prospect out of the Olympic Games, Dirrell dismantled game 30-year old veteran Anthony Hanshaw (21-2-1, 14 KO) in five rounds. Starting stiff and nervous, Dirrell would push past any anxieties and some rough early going for the biggest win of his young career.
Hanshaw’s only previous loss was to future Hall of Famer Roy Jones last year. [details]
