The mark of a special fighter

    Another Diaz-J. Cotto reference coming...

As I am watching this fight, it is occurring to me that the effort and performance being put forth by Jose Cotto would have beaten a lot, and I mean a lot, of lightweights that night. Unfortunately he was fighting against Juan Diaz, who made that look like a walk in the park to beat him.

Another example comes to mind. When Mikkel Kessler fought close to a perfect fight against Joe Calzaghe and lost, it donned on me as well. This guy is special.

I think the mark of a special fighter is when he can fight another elite, or at least very close it, fighter and win when their opponent is putting forth a perfect performance.

    Thoughts?

I was really impressed with Jeese Felicano against Kermit Cintron. Jose Navarro kept it very competetive with Cristian Miajres. Mijares was just two steps ahead of him.

These aren't special fighters like elite ones, but I think they could make most welterweights have a tough night.

Diaz style and what he is able to do(before he lost) is special.

Side note: Juan Diaz might have less power than Paulie Malignaggi.

The 12th round against Cotto was an absolute slaughter. Diaz landed like 25 flush shots on the chin... seriously. I am 100% serious too. Cotto looked slightly hurt in the last few seconds, after the 22nd or 23rd flush shot on the chin landed, but... Damn, if he had any power, he would have killed Cotto.
