Is James Toney really a jerk?

I hear mixed things about James Toney. Some wish he would get beaten to a bloody pulp, others love him. Rumor has it that his acting like a complete ******* is all an act to entertain and to get into his opponents heads. Whats the verdict?

Also, him sporting that Star of David makes me think he has a gang connection (Judah always has it too), and that makes me hate him anymore. I can't imagine a lifestyle more worthless than the gang lifestyle.

I have met him a couple of times. Got my wig split next to him here in the deuce. He was a really nice guy. I was just a kid, so it was part of the reason he is one of my favorites today...part of the reason I have followed the majority of his career.

Hmmm... I guess so.

Someone told me that both Toney and Judah wore it because it was representative of a certain gang.

Both seem like the type of idiots who would live the gang style even though they are wildly rich. (Judah does for sure, I know. Do you remember him brawling with people over a dice game in the street?)

He definitely acts like an ******* and is very convincing doing it. However over the years I've heard many times that he is friendly and cool, especially when he is away from the gym.

As is usually the case, apologists will say it's an act. But in all likelihood he has too few functioning brain cells to sustain an act. I think he's a joker but not one with any conscious control.
