The only way I see Forbes winning is if he just jumps on DLH and outworks and pounds him the way Glen Johnson did to Roy Jones. DLH will really just need to get old overnight before I could really see Forbes winning this one.
I have nothing but respect for Steve Forbes. He's a solid fighter, but DLH is too big, skilled and experienced for Forbes. It's just another level of competition than Forbes is used to.
So do you think De La Hoya will have an easy time with Forbes, or will it be a close fight?
Does Forbes have any chance of winning?
Post your thoughts and predictions.
I believe its either going to be De La Hoya by KO/TKO or a WIDE decision.
I think it floyd sr and oscar think its in his best interest to get in as much work as he can in those 12 rounds so i think the gameplan will be to beat him but not bad enough to score an early knockout...
i think the goal is for oscar to get his work in and go for the knockout (basically just to close the show) from the 10th round on.
It's my predicition and if i was training oscar; considering his age; stamina; and how far he's fallen out of his prime i'd instruct him to do exactly as my predicition says; get your work in for the first 10 then go for the knockout in the 10th-12th round to close out the show.
i think if oscar treated this like a regular fight (instead of a tune-up fight) i think oscar could knockout forbes within 5-7 rounds to be honest.
if it goes to the scorecards i think it will be roughly 10 rounds to 2 rounds (for oscar; give or take a round).
if forbes loses 8 rounds to 4 rounds he's fought the best fight of his career...
I dont know Forbes looked average against Brewer, and Brewer is leagues below what Oscar has to offer even at this point. I say in round 5 Forbes starts to slow down, and Oscar takes the rest of the rounds en route to a UD. Possible late stoppage, Forbes is too slick to get hit with anything big though.
I believe that Forbes will give a decent account of himself, while Oscar wants to get some rounds of work in. By the late rounds the size and power difference should start telling more and it becomes a question of whether Forbes will go the distance or not. If Oscar struggles at all to get the win, then he is clearly a shot fighter who shouldn't be challenging the #1 boxer in the world this fall.
exactly, and well said. This fight is a litmus test for Oscar back at the wlterwight limit and if he cant handle his business well against Forbes he will have a difficult time against Floyd again.
