Guzman owns 130 nobody at that weight can compete with him unless its Luis Del Valle, but hes only had one pro fight, unless a Mexican comes along and stops him from unfying the belts. Arthurs probaly stalling, to sike him out.

Guzman is a beast man, he deserves a shot at the big names at 130 and 135.
Guzman vs. Marquez - Winner fights Pacquiao for 135 lb beltComment

Guzmans left out of the lightweight touranament, between pacman, marquez, casamayor, campbell, and casamayor. He gets no big names, theres no Mexicans left sat 130 for Guzman who have a big enough name, Pacman cleaned house and left the divsion.Comment

He can take on (and beat) the Venezuelan Edwin Valero, which should give him a bit of recognition.
Also, at 130, currently Marquez is ranked #1 and Guzman #2, so if they fight eachother the winner becomes Champion (since Pacquaio is out). That COULD be motivation for Marquez to fight him, but I guess that all depends if Marquez cares about 130 or if he'll be going up to 135 to chase pacquaio.Last edited by ИATAS; 05-01-2008, 01:25 PM.Comment

Could be but I think their starting a Lightweight tournament for Amir Khan and Marquez will follow Pascman where ever he goes. Valero would be a good fight, it could be a draw from where Im standing. And whoever wins will dominate 130.Mexicans left out now, sadly. He can take on (and beat) the Venezuelan Edwin Valero, which should give him a bit of recognition.

Yo Natas, is this fight happening or not? If so ,when ,and will it be televised. Guzman should just let this Amazin alex Arthur dude go away, he should push for a fight with Valero in TEXas.Guzman: Arthur in for beating!
Wednesday, April 30 2008
WBO junior lightweight champion Joan Guzman doesn't understand what the hold up is. Guzman was originally slated to face interim champion Alex Arthur on May 3rd in Edinburgh, Scotland, but the bout was postponed after Guzman had to delay his arrival due to visa problems.
"I received my visa on April 24 and was ready to travel to Scotland the next day," he says. "I was packed and ready to go. I was excited. I could have easily fought him on the original date. I don't know why the fight needed a new date other than the fact that Arthur is flat-out scared of me. He was looking for an excuse to postpone this fight because he knew he was going to get destroyed and embarrassed in front of his hometown fans. This only makes me angrier. I want to get my fists on him now more than ever before. This guy is in for a real beating. He's going to get scotch-taped like you wouldn't believe. The visa issue wasn't even a big deal. All the paperwork was in order. I'm convinced Arthur is afraid of me. If he really wanted the fight he would tell his promoter to get us a new, immediate date. It has been nearly a week and we haven't heard a thing."
Anyone remember when Alex Arthur came out to 50cent in Scotland.Comment

Well, the reports a few days ago was the fight was still going to happen, they just needed to figure out a new date. Nothing has been said since and now after what Guzman just said, I'm uncertain this fight will happen at all. I think Guzman has a good point that there was no need for the fight to be delayed. We'll see.
And yeah, a fight with Valero in Texas would be much more rewarding for Guzman, imo. No disrespect to Arthur but he isn't really known and Valero has received world wide recognition for his KO streak.Comment

Anyone know the latest? WTF is going on? Found this article which is from May 1st:
Joan Guzman's Birthday Wish: 'Get Me Arthur in the Ring'
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (May 1, 2008) – Undefeated World Boxing Organization Junior Lightweight Champion Joan Guzman will celebrate his thirty-second birthday today with family and friends at his home in Brooklyn, N.Y. “My real celebration was supposed to be this Saturday, but (Alex) Arthur is scared and running for the hills,” said Guzman, referring to the postponement of his May 3 title fight against Arthur in Edinburgh, Scotland..
“So instead of blowing this guy out in front of his hometown fans, I have to settle for blowing out the candles on my birthday cake.
“Mark my words, when I retain my world title and knockout Arthur, it will be icing on the cake.
“I would be the happiest boxer in the world if I found out today that Arthur and his promoter (Frank Warren) finally agreed on a date to fight me. All I want is Arthur in the ring. I don’t think that is too much to ask for.
“This reminds me of the Scott Harrison ordeal of a few years back. The Harrison group kept dodging us and I feel like the Arthur team is doing the exact same thing.”
In 2005, Guzman was scheduled to fight the U.K.-based Harrison for the WBO featherweight championship. The title shot dissolved as the bout was postponed three times due to Harrison’s alcohol problems. By then Guzman had outgrown the featherweight division and decided to move up to the 130-pound beast he is today.Comment
