editor:It's been a minute Berto, what's the latest and greatest?
AB:"Yes sir! I'm back home. I've been on vacation for a while, I've been on the low key, but now I'm back home on ********** and I'm going to be on **********, probably every day or every other day until fight time, that's how it's going down."
editor: June 21, Miguel Angel Rodriguez. Can you tell us what you know about him?
Andre Berto: "I don't know much about him at all, I've seen some tape on him and I heard about him a little bit, but at this point right now it doesn't matter all that much. I'm just so hungry to get back into camp and finally headline my own show. I'm excited and I'm preparing like a beast for this fight, I'm looking forward to the Garden and taking it to New York."
editor: This is the first headliner on HBO...
AB: (cutting in) "I'm expecting it to be the first of many. This right here is what all the young guys dream about being on HBO, but now headlining my own show, this is where I feel everything is really going to start for me. This will be the beginning of the new and the young era."
editor: You told me you wanted to sharpen up on your defense, do you feel you have?
AB: "You're definitely going to see some difference. I've been working on everything from my footwork to my defense, to fighting southpaw. I want to make sure I cover every aspect of this boxing game. I want to be a complete fighter. I want to go out there and perform. Forwards, backwards, north, south, sideways, however they try to bring it, I have to be ready for it."
editor: When can we expect to see you matched against somebody who will universally be recognized as a threat?
AB: "My last few opponents were supposed to be threats.
editor: They were opponents.
AB: "Hopefully soon. This one here is going to be a big show for me and I'm looking forward to going out there and putting on another exciting performance for the fans. Then after that I believe we're going to step up to something a little more dangerous for me so I can really show people what I'm all about."
editor: When do you expect to challenge for a title?
AB: "Definitely by the end of this year. We're going to see how it plays out. I've been getting crazy love from the fans, they're liking my performances and I just want to keep giving it to them. I'm ready to go back out there and get it done.'
editor: Closing thoughts?
AB: "I've been off for a while. My ******* page has been blowing up with people wanting to know what's going on with me. I've been in hibernation for a bit, relaxing and chilling and taking care of some other business on the low. But now I'm going to be keeping everybody informed exclusively on ********** with my man G. Leon, who was the first person I called for my interview from the Olympics in 04, ya heard.
