  • Amir Khan Names Powell as Trainer, For Now

Despite numerous reports in the UK that were pointing to American-based trainer Buddy McGirt, undefeated lightweight Amir Khan named Dean Powell as the trainer for his next fight. Powell is promoter Frank Warren's matchmaker. Khan recently fired Oliver Harrison, who trained him since he became a pro. Khan had told several UK outlets that he was looking to get an American trainer to further his career, but instead picked Powell, at least for the moment. [details]

Next fight Khan gets a beating(poor training) but gets handed a decision by the judges. This is the way to justify he is not ready for the states. Warren is not going to let Khan go to the states and possibly lose his next cash cow to other promoters or Khan's own self promotion.

That sounds like a sensible comment. But i don't see Khan wanting to stay here - i think the fact that he's allready been over to the US, apparantly spared with floyd and shook hands with a loada top brass, has lit his fire so to speak. I believe a **** you Warren, is in order.

If the split is inevitable then look for a scenario similar to jaun diaz's(DK). These promoters have so much control over the sport that they can make subtle/covert arrangements to attempt to hurt their careers.

Frank Warren you know is doing what he can to not let Khan split to the states. His cash cow will be gone. I hope Amir dumps his ass sometime soon so he can make some good fights over here in the states.

Well I'm heading over to Buddy McGirt's gym to get a comment from him on the situation. We'll know a little more about the situation then.
