The fundamental difference between the sweet science of Boxing and MMA...

Most of MMA’s fighters have below par standup. For people who consider themselves martial artists they leave a lot to be desired in striking proficiency.
Most wade in with wild punches, very little in the way of combinations (apart from fighters such as Anderson Silva who even with his stand up could not compete at the highest level of boxing) and overall lack striking technique.
Cung Le is about the closest I've seen to a good stand up martial artist.

The difference in boxing is that top level fighters are masters of their art.
Boxing is more pure than MMA at the moment. Maybe in a few decades MMA will catch up but until then boxing is the purists sport.

true, when you study many styles, it may make you a better all around fighter but that doesnt mean you are more skilled than someone who practices only BJJ or Boxing.

Just a point on over 'PCness'. Since when does a factual observation mean racism? That is the whole damn problem with this overly PC world we live in now. How is an observation that more white people live in an area racist? What about more black people in an area? What's the difference between that and 2501's statement? You've got to learn to differentiate between someone or something that is actually thought of with a racist connotation behind it. What 2501 said seemed to me to have absolutely nothing of the sort in it and the fact that you jumped up about just means that it is you that is actually thinking those things.

This is the pathetic reason that we can't even differentiate between a white guy and a black guy by saying "oh, Joe's the black dude" because someone like you will jump out and say, "Dude, what the ****? That's racist!", "Huh, but Joe is the black dude."

You are right, you can't compare the two, not quitting in boxing can result in death.

Choosing to 'tap out' in mma equates to the choice in boxing as to whether or not to continute taking a beating that puts onself in the position of facing a possible fatality. The fact that it is less likely is of immaterial value...

Cutting off an Octagon and cutting off a ring are two different things. An Octagon has no right angles/corners, while a ring has 4. You can't corner a guy when there are no corners!

Yeah, because allowing your arm to be broken so you can't fight again for months or being choked unconscious risking brain injury are real conducive to a successful career.
