Why MMA has gotten so popular in the US

This is a realistic view on it. So check it, Americans are a lazy society. That's a truth, anything else would be in denial. So, what would Americans prefer? Sports that involve less effort. A sport that the average fat beer drinking American can imagine he'd have a chance in participating in, if he dropped his beer can and got off the couch. MMA, gives the feeling anyone has a chance. You see these fat fighters that have decent stamina and can punch, and that's the chance of hope for these fat people that watch the sport. Heck, not even fat people, but people who are average but think they can win in a street fight can win in MMA because it doesn't involve something boxing has in a huge abundance. STAMINA. If it involves too much effort, the American won't try it or want to watch it because he knows he can't participate. Look at Football. They love it because, it involves sprinting and not a constant pace. Something anyone can participate in for fun. Boxing involves way too much for the average joe.

By the way, there are obviously more reasons, but I just thought I'd state one reason that came to mine. Also, I'm American, born here, so don't think it's hate or anything. Just stating some facts.

I dont think thats the reason.

I think its just simply the more consistantly entertaining sport. more KO's. More memorable endings.

Boxing at its best is a lot more entertaining IMO, but your average MMA fight is a brawl because most of these guys dont have much stand-up talent. They just swing away. AND the small gloves create more blood/excitement.

So you can sit down with a UFC PPV for a night with a few friends and enjoy the entire card start to finish, whereas you'll likely enjoy the main event of a boxing PPV but ignore the undercards.

The person who made this thread needs to get his facts straight. Many mma fighters must be in shape. You obviously have no knowledge of MMA so your only option is to talk bad about it. I always knew MMA was going to be a threat but I never knew it would in so much posts. Just proves boxing doens't handle the situation properly. Two great sports and yet the people who talk bad about both have never really watched them as much. It's always the people who don't know anything that bash a sport. Like ciritics. Don't be a stan, be a sports fan. Don't be a judge be a spectator. Some of ya'll involve yourself in places you have no business being in

i totally agree. if boxing keeps providing fights like mayweather fights then there's no doubt that mma can provide more action.

So because Dana White doesn't like boxing, it's ok to speak out about a sport that you don't no about? Dana is just doing it for his business. It doesn't mean you have to talk about MMA because the UFC is only one organization out of many. It is dominating the MMA sport but you shouldn't base you opinion on MMA purely on Dana and his comments. It is a market strategy what he does

I think the lack of a HW champ with a name that invokes worldwide recognition is sumthin helpin MMA. Some people just aren't sharp enough to think there's more to boxing than heavyweights, and as long as we don't got an Ali or Tyson type champ everybody knows, ignorant people will keep claimin boxing is dead and look elsewhere for combat entertainment.
