I'd be inclined to agree except I think it's a styles match-up. Let's face it, Toney has had weight problems throughout his career. It was only an excuse when he got his a** handed to him. Where were the weight problems when he stopped Prince Charles Williams (a damn good fighter BTW) in the last round only FOUR months before he fought Roy? How about weighing something like 230 before moving back down to cruiser to fight Jirov?

Toney has always had weight issues. But losing 11 rounds to one? Sorry...
E****ingxactly. The ONLY time people REALLY want to use Toney's weight as an excuse is when he got his ass handed to him.

Oooh, with that comment you've changed my mind forever about Joe, and now I hate him. And such an original name you called him... WOW!

      Thanks for that!

hey dude this isnt about james toney anyway so just leave it everyone has there opinion he lost to roy because he didnt have the energy and was weight drained.
When he was desciplined he was a beast and you can tell toneys style is ment to knocking roy the *** out much like what tarver did counter left straight when roy was in a combination granted roy was on the downside.
But a great counter puncher with defense and power would of killed roy he got of easy thats all im sayin its a dam shame.

hey man its always been a issue that was going to be his last outing on super mid he came down to super mid jus to fight jones.
didnt help that he had to be hooked up to a machine to get fluids back since he lost alot of pounds before the fight.

This isn't about Toney? I coulda swore I was responding to YOUR comments regarding Toney-Jones. Right or wrong?

LOL@ he didn't have the energy. Energy to do what? Catch Roy? That mutha****a couldn't even find Roy to throw a punch that night. And Jones, ever the intelligent fighter, ALWAYS came in at angles against Toney - negating his counterpunching. Weight drained my a**.

Furthermore, Toney landed several VERY hard rights against Jones in that fight, one of which caught Jones as he leaped in. Jones didn't blink.

But you know what? Should've, could've...didn't. Story of Toney's career. Sad, really...out of the three golden fighters of this era (Toney, Jones, Hopkins), I always felt he should've been the best - he had it all. Sad that a hall of fame career was also an underachieving one.
