Joe Calzaghe to drop WBC belt rather than face Carl Froch

JOE CALZAGHE is set to give up his WBC super-middleweight title because he doesn't want to fight Carl Froch, who has been named as his mandatory challenger.

The champ is not interested in facing the unbeaten Nottingham fighter and is expected to relinquish the belt to pursue a showdown with Roy Jones Junior or Kelly Pavlik.

Froch was made the No.1 challenger for the WBC crown after Dennis Inkin pulled out of their eliminator in Nottingham on May 10, claiming he was injured.

The Cobra is now expected to face former IBF champion Alejandro Berrio on the bill that also features Junior Witter's WBC light-welterweight title defence against Timothy Bradley

Calzaghe has just officially ducked Carl Froch.

Just what Steve Collins did to him.

Props to him. With only a few fights left before Cal calls it a career, there's no sense in wasting a fight with a guy like Froch.

No point in fighting Froch when there are bigger fights out there for him.

Froch is the best fighter in any middle weight division at the moment.

They let Mayweather keep his WBC belt for two years without defending it.

            But now they strip Joe.

Calzaghe has yet to fight a proven fighter in their prime. His 'legacy' is in such doubt and now he's giving up meaningful belts to avoid big-money mandatories that the (British) public want to see. It's a joke as far as I'm concerned. I don't know why Americans have taken him in.

Beating Carl Froch would do nothing for his legacy. Only Froch & and some Froch nuthuggers from Nottingham think Calzaghe should fight Froch.

Calzaghe should fight twice. Once against Roy Jones and the other against either Kelly Pavlik/Chad Dawson/Glen Johnson/Antonio Tarver.
