ESPN the Magazine ran a short story about a pair of Mexican-American twins that are trying to qualify for the Olympics. Their names are Oscar and Javier Molina. The twist is that while one has a very good shot at making the U.S. Boxing Team, the other is trying out (and will probably make) the Mexican team. As the story goes, their parents didn't want the boys competing against each to make the Olympic team, so one of the twins moved up from 141 lbs. to 152 lbs. The move backfired because he lost his next fight, which crippled his chances. The only move left was to join the Mexican team, which under Olympic rules he's allowed to do. An athlete can choose to fight for the country where he was born, or the countries of his parents. Pretty good little story, keep a lookout this summer.

It didn't say their age, but I think it would make for a good documentary piece when the Olympics roll around.Comment

I forgot to mention that one of the brothers had to move to Mexico City to train and prepare and its the first time they've ever been separated. Their American trainer described one of them as a " tank ", while the other " leads fighters into a mine field. " Pretty cool descriptions.Comment
