How would Joe Calzaghe do in the early 80s?

Joe fought mostly at 168 in the era of day-before weigh-ins and often talked about the physical drain it took, so most likely he'd be at 175 under the old weigh-in rules in the early 80s (even if there were a weight class limit of 168 around back then).

How does he do in the early 80s at light-heavyweight against the likes of Saad, Qawi, Spinks, Eddie Mustafa, and the others?

    Very good question.

Hmmm. Well, off the cuff, I think the Saad-Muhammad/Calzaghe fight as well as the Qawi-Calzaghe fight would be hellacious! I do give both Qawi and Saad-Muhammad the edge to win by later round stoppage, though.

Spinks-Calzaghen would be very interesting; but I still see the "older" fighter winning....either by later round stoppage or decision.

Mustafa Muhammad, I think Calzaghe could have beaten....by decision.

Just quick thoughts without real in-depth analysis; but very intriguing match-ups.

Ultimately, I think the outcomes, more oftern than not, would come down the the superiour strength of the Light-Heavyweights listed and Joe's inability to get their respect with his lack of punching power.
