Extortion only occurs when a person either unlawfully obtains money, property or services from a person, without that person's consent. I agree the stripper may have stolen the pictures, but why file suit with charges if there was no credibility behind it? Defamation? Defamation is the same as slander or libel, it's simply the act of making a false claim I.E.-a lie. I wouldn't caaste valuable time and effort on something as meager as a lie.

Look at everyone saying well why didnt Jose Canseco get sued for slander when accusing everybody of steriods, it can be a meager lie as well, but because people didnt sue him they assume its true, its a lose lose situation.

I guess it is a double-edged sword in that respect. All I know is if it had been me, I'd have played it off much better than he did. Even if they were real, if you're joking around about it it makes it seem less real somehow.

But that was my entire point. If they were fake, as De La Hoya's team have stated, why seek legal action? Why not play the whole thing off as a joke, like you say it is? I understand the reputational harm that could've occured but if he played the hand he was dealt better than he did, nobody would've believed it anyway.
