I have been reading everyones threads lately about Jones Jr and Calzaghe, with Hopkins lurking around somewhere sorta of like Obi Won Kenobi when you cant see him but you know hes there. I love everyones thread about all three men. Personally I am a huge RJJR fan and have been since it all began. I had I'd say 75% of his fights on tapes, then recently I bought his entire career on DVD. Shoutout to BoxingWholesale. This being said, I'm looking at this possible fight as probably the biggest fight this year, lets say the most important fight this year. Simply because you have Calzaghe who if he were to beat Jones, you have a fighter who beat Hopkins and Jones in back to back fights. Now forget about there age its not a issue, but if you were to tell him 10 years ago the a man has the oppurtunity to beat Hopkins then Jones I'd of called you a **** and slapped you around, and then would have said well if the guy had only won 2 fights in his career and those were the 2 he would be a shoein for the Hall Of Fame. Now personally speaking to me this fight means more to Jones then it does to Calzaghe. I he were to retire tomorrow he would be a Hall Of Famer but with a huge what if next to his name. But Jones needs this fight to get back into the limelight. He's done it all lets be honest. He was the most gifted fighter of the last 30 years. 3-3 in his last 6 and Im gonna say one brutal knockout, becuase the 2nd fight with Tarver was a great punch and Jones did in fact attempt to get up, but it seems to me that Roy is back i na sense. Lets face it hes not gonna be the same fighter he was, but hes learned to adapt. He is one of the smartest fighters to ever grace the sport. The way you hear him think things through and tell Alton Merkerson what hes looking at and what he going to do to counter it in the next round and then you see what he sees. This is what makes me think that Jones may be back. WEll Calaghe, he dditn go anywhere, hes what he is, where Jones was back in 2004 before the knockout to Tarver. On top of the boxing world. Do you sense something here.....Calzaghe has holes yes, every fighter does, Hopkins i dont think exposed him , but he gave a little input into how to keep Joe offguard. A lot like Tarver started to do in the 1st fight with Jones. Let me ask you this....do you guys see the same track coming to a head for Calzaghe like it did Jones in 2004, where he was beat up good in a close fight, awarded the win and now frighters see a little bit more in depth into Calz style? Could a knockout be coming Calz way? And also remember, Jones was 35 at the time of his knockout loss to Tarver. Calz 36 this year? Any input?
The Jones Jr. in 04...could be Calz in 08-09

HAHAHAH, jones knocking calzaghe out? Thats ****ing hilarious as hell, its more like it that the slapper has a better chance of koing Roy. And Hopkins showed that if you clinch and use your head as a weapon then its possible to try and cheat to win and give Calzaghe problems at the same time.Calzaghe has holes yes, every fighter does, Hopkins i dont think exposed him , but he gave a little input into how to keep Joe offguard. Jones still has snap on his punches, Calzaghe could be KOed as well as Roy could be KOed, stop being Biased.HAHAHAH, jones knocking calzaghe out? I think that Joe should be very careful about how long he carries on for. There was an excellent piece in the paper this weekend that pointed out that for the first time in his career Calzaghe is basking in the glow of genuine recognition and that there is every chance it will turn his head. The phrase they used was "lets hope Joe Calzaghe hasn't caught the greed bug in Babylon."
Before the Hopkins fight Joe had suggested that it could be his last, now he's talking about "one more fight, maybe two..." For a long time it has seemed that Joe has been able to defy the aging process, getting well into his thirties without getting noticeably worse, and even getting better, but I think we saw some definite decline against Hopkins. At 36, Joe can't expect to go on boxing at his best for very much longer and the longer he does, the greater the risk becomes. They say everyone will get beat eventually and if you try to go on boxing forever then it absolutely will come true.
Right now, I'm pretty confident he can still beat most of the potential opposition out there, but for example, I'm not sure how keen I'd be to keen to see him get in with Kessler again. I also think that Roy Jones poses a bigger risk than Calzaghe imagines. He is a true ATG and even though Calzaghe beats him on paper right now, the truth is that no-one really seems to know what to expect from Roy. He still seems to possess good handspeed and power, but with his knockout defeats he also seems very fragile. The truth is we won't know until we see him step in the ring and fight Joe. I can envisage everything from an upset UD in Roy's favour to a Calzaghe win by KO. Probably we'd just see the younger Calzaghe win a decision based on workrate and punch volume, but I don't think its certain.
Whatever happens, Joe should set himself a two fight limit max. He still has more to do to win over the US and I suppose he should be credited for daring to risk his 0 rather than lambasted as being greedy.

Well the thing is there aren't too many fighters over the age of 40 left, so I don't think he'll fight too many more times. After he fights Jones, Glen Johnson will be turning 40 so he'll be available. Winky Wright will be 37, so much too young. I'd say he'll fight one more time (Johnson) after jones and retire.Comment

his chin has not been tested yet cause he slaps at you so much. but gosh geeeez to get knocked down on the very first punch by bernard hopkins has to just embarrass the **** out of you, calzaghe, and his fans. Bernard hopkins iis by no means a power threat lmao. and btw roy jones jr in 2008 beats calzaghe.Comment

Ha ha ha.
Calzaghe beats any of Pavlik, Dawson, Tarver, Winky, Glen Johnson or Clinton Woods IMO.
You don't share it?

Ah, I dunno. To be honest I don't like Calzaghe at Light Heavy, I think supermiddle was absolutely perfect for him. I'd be a little weary of fighting someone like Dawson or Johnson at light heavy for a number of reasons. Tarver or Woods should be easy wins though.
I like his chances better against someone like Pavlik at supermiddle and it's a more appealing fight.
Winky at supermiddle would be a good fight too. But I think he should, and will, stay away because Winky has a style to make Joe look bad.Comment

Perfectly reasonable I'd say. No doubt Calzaghe looked better at super middle. I'm personally hoping it was just Hopkins making him look bad. I'm not too afraid of Dawson or Johnson as opponents for Joe, but agree Pavlik would be easier.Ah, I dunno.
