There is one big difference between Roy and Joe, their ability to carry extra weight. Roy proved he can carry a lot of extra weight (compared to when he was a MW), Joe has not proved this and now never will.

If, and it's a big if, Joe is able to carry the weight effectively, he could, in theory, win a version of the heavyweight title. He has the same attributes that Jones used in his brief stint at heavyweight: speed, stamina and workrate. If we are to be truly fair, we have to assume that Joe could do what Jones did, as both their strengths are similair.

Where the similarities end, however, is where the grey area begins. Joe has a completely different style to Roy. Roy was happy to sit back on the defensive and pot shot his way to victory. Calzaghe does not do that, he likes to push forward aggressively and couter punch as people try to fight their way out. Against a heavyweight, this would be the wrong tactic for Joe. Although he has proven himself very able to fight using many different styles, whether he would be able to do so against a man possessing serious one punch KO power is debatable.

If Joe caught an especially poor champion at the right stage of his career, as Roy did, he would be more than capable of capturing a heavyweight belt.

Would Roy Jones have beaten the legitimate World Champion at Heavyweight?
Would he have beaten ANY other Heavyweight apart from John Ruiz who's style was Tailor made for Roy?
If he believed it himself he would have hung around as a Heavy.
Ruiz offered a perfect opportunity for Roy to hoodwink lots of gullible people into thinking he was a REAL heavyweight Champion when Lennox Lewis was still active and dominant.
Then he got beaten by brutal Ko's to smaller men in Johnson & Tarver.
Who I would favour Calzaghe to beat both.
        Pretty Reediculous thread.

Roy's mandatory defence after beating Ruiz was Vitali Klitschko.

Was it any wonder that he moved back down to LHW?

thats all you had to say... i was just asking if he could or not

he was a former middleweight... of course hes not going to fight klitschko or lewis... it wouldnt even be fair... the whole point of the fight was that someone naturally 45 pounds smaller can beat a true heavyweight in the ring, and he did that... no credit? none at all?

Id pick old Roy to beat Joe right now, prime Roy would have KO'd him easy.

                  Roy is bigger than Calzaghe.

Bernard Hopkins wanted to go up to Heavyweight to fight Sultan Ibragimov because he thought that he isn't all that much bigger than him and that Hopkins has figured out the Southpaw stance.

Roy Jones only tested positive for steroids once I believe. James Toney tested postive twice and both times he was out of shape. No steroids vs Holyfield or Dominick Guinn or Hasim Rahman or Samuel Peter - one of the two fights which he was competitive in. Roy DID NOT take any steroids when he moved up to heavyweight.

Stop making excuses for their greatness. Joe is a fairy prancing ***** who knew his limits and decided to take the easy path to greatness milking his WBO title safely at home for a decade. He is nowhere near Roy in greatness.....can't even touch him.

There how is that for a balanced post. You guys leave me no choice with the ****** **** you put out.
