He still has a **** promoter and bad management, that's the problem!

Maybe Joe wanted to go to the states eairlier in his career and fight prime Roy and prime Hopkins etc.

But IMO Frank Warren and Co didn't want to send there prize fighter into the lions den incase Joe got his ass beat on the biggest stage in boxing!

    Amen.

Let me flip the script back to you. You are asking me to prove a negative?

You made a statement that Calzaghe would come to America back in the late 90s. Please provide any evidence of that.

Because I can provide evidence of Roy's competition level at that time. Calzaghe's? Not so much.

Joe never didn't wanna leave eUrope himself he said it in interviews before he would always say he would fight them anyday, As long as they went to europe to fight him. RJJ would have made joe look like a fool if they fought in their primes. I hope this fight happens cuz rjj can still do it imo.

Roy's competition, at SMW and LHW, that was below Joe's level, is too numerous to list.

Yet Roy fought them anyway and left Calzaghe out in the cold. It couldn't have been a monetary issue, as Roy took fights for less than the offer that was made to fight Joe. I'm not trying to say Roy was scared of Joe, but he most certainly didn't want to fight him. What we also have to remember is that this was back when Joe had the power and speed to expose Roy's fragile beard. I can understand why Roy didn't take the fight, and I am not accusing him of dodging Joe, it was a business decision first and foremost. What I do take exception to, however, is Roy telling only half truths. Roy wouldn't fight Joe because there was a very real chance he could lose (Prime for prime its a 50-50 pickem fight) against an unknown opponent in his own backyard.
You could be right, but I don't recall that there was any announcement by Calzaghe or his management that he was willing to travel to America back then. Their talk was all about their lack ofreaso to travel when they had huge built-in following in Britain, and the uncertainty about getting a faor deal in the States. I also don't recall any deinite contract talks. whatever they were doing behind the scnes, was probably jockeying for the upper hand in negotiations still to come. Which never did, because as Jones says, he had an overfull plate, as had Calzaghe.

The proof is that 2008 was his first fight in America. Who is Joe Calzaghe to be calling great fightes out as WBO titlist from Europe like he is Oscar Delahoya - that the fighters will fight him as soon as he mentions their name.

Lennox Lewis came to America and he got his oppritunities like every other heavyweight and he made the best out of it becoming the heavyweight champion. Had he only been fightin in England for the majority of his career calling out Holyfield or Tyson....nobody would have taken him serious.

Like Ricky Hatton, it was Joe's responsibility to leave the comfort of his home and go chase the great fighters in or around his weight class. He didn't do that....plain and simple. He chose to hold on to his WBO title and make defenses in Wales living comfortably and Frank Warren benefited the most from it.
