Its gettting rediculous. The gloves keep getting bigger and bigger and its more and more dangerous.

In the olden days fighters used to wear tiny tiny gloves and they would fight 100+ fights and still live to be 100 years old.

Now-a-days fighters wear bigger gloves yet they are brain dead after after 50 fights and live to be 60.

***HINT HINT***. Make gloves SMALLER. Why do u think MMA has so few injuries to the head??? Because fights end quicker, the fighters dont take sustained and consistant beatings to the head. When they are hurt, the fights usually end.

Not to mention, fights are more exciting, boxings popularity increases, more drama, and in turn the fighters can make more ****in money!!!!

i've been asking when did they change the glove sizes.especially in vegas.it must of bewen recent cause oscar vs tito had gloves that looked about 8oz.

mma fighters take less headshots from punches, they also need to be able to use their hands,

and the amount of former fighters who had brain damage and premature deaths was huge when the glove were tiny, you wan't 60 round fights too?

also, the style of modern boxing and may of the defensive techniques have been adapted for large boxing gloves. Catches, covering up etc

you make a valid point.

However there are pros and cons to wearing big and small gloves.

Big gloves provide more padding which takes away some of the power of the punch.

Small gloves provide less padding so more of the power from the fist connects to the head.

Jesse Feliciano (one in particular) would be dead by now...(if you seen him fight; ie. against cintron and last night on FNF)...

imagine kelly pavlik's opponents? or emmanuel nwodo (when he got knocked out viciously by darnell wilson) etc.

It could very well end fights sooner (ie. when a fighter gets hurt its over basically with smaller gloves) but the right blow with a smaller glove could cause serious injury due to the fact there is less padding.

so i'd say either way can be dangerous.

I think the correct thing to do is educate the refs more (to be cautious) and stop fights that need to be stopped.

Sometimes i get mixed feelings about something like this but last night was a proper stoppage by the ref in the feliciano fight. yes he was very much in the fight (still punching; not off balance; etc.) but he was taking a beating and losing almost every round and his opponent was landing at 48% with a ton of head shots.

that was dangerous to feliciano and normally i would criticize a ref for stopping a fight where the "hurt" fighter isnt indeed hurt.


I think its a trade off with the big v. small gloves arguement. there are pros and cons to both sides of your arguement and i think the best thing to do is use bigger gloves and just have the refs more educated and for the commissions to urge refs to stop fights when the punishment has been sustained for a certain amount of time.

I AGREE! we need to get a petition going and pass it to all the boxing websites for everyone to sign!

they need to make the gloves 6oz.

becuase they already done tests saying the Bigger the glove the more swelling it can cause in the brain...

This will eliminate the Paulia Malignaggis and Floyd Mayweathers along with Corey Spinks of the world I might add.. Boxing would be a lot less diverse.

That's a good point. I wonder how say a Mayweather or Winky would do using the 6oz gloves.
