San Francisco, CA- With Manny Pacquiao admitting that Juan Manuel Marquez is a better fighter than he, boxing fans we are at a fork in the road that I could never have envisioned with the once braver than brave Pacman. Three, four years ago, there wasn’t anyone on the planet that questioned either the size of Manny’s stones or his intestinal fortitude.
DON’T BLAME PROMOTER, BLAME PAC!
But the fact that he is willing to engage the hapless David Diaz this summer instead of a third fight with arch-nemesis Marquez, a fight that in which he would make more money than he could against Diaz, in fact more money than he has ever made in his boxing career, this should speak volumes, even to the Pacman fans who cover their ears with their hands in an attempt to mute the truth.
TV GUY: PAC SKIPPING RECORD PURSE
After conversations with a suit at HBO, it was confirmed that Pacquiao could command a purse in the neighborhood of $7,000,000 (that’s 7 million dollars to those of you that are intellectually challenged), plus a percentage of the PPV receipts. He will be lucky to make half of that amount to fight Diaz, the WBC lightweight (135 lbs.) champion, a man you would compliment by calling him a “paper champion.”
FIGHTING SAFE FOE FOR HALF THE BUCKS
At the end of the day, Pacquiao has the Diaz fight that is a lot safer than a third Marquez fight. But Manny is at the same time denying himself of his biggest payday by far, and fighting a lesser foe than Marquez. This doesn’t mesh with the mindset of a fighter whose confidence level is peaking, but rather a fighter who is looking for the easy way out.
NOT THE MANNY I ONCE KNEW!
Again, four years ago, I could’ve never imagined Pacquiao, the greatest Filipino fighter ever, running away from a Mexican challenger. And while the Pac fanatics are reluctant to admit such, Manny Pacquiao, the Pacman, is afraid of Juan Manuel Marquez because there’s a greater chance he’ll lose than win.
NOT ABOUT $$ OR GREATNESS FOLKS!
If it was all about money as the Pac blogheads state, we’d be savoring a third Pacquiao-Marquez fight, and not Diaz-Pacquiao. And if Manny Pacquiao was all about “greatness” as the Pacquiao mob tries to claim, then again, Manny would be fighting Marquez. In closing, again, I never thought Manny’s sack was one stone short!
