  • ..JOE CALZAGHE: The Last Run...

What do you think Joe should do for the last leg of his career? Who should he fight? So on and so forth.

    To me personally, I see....

    FIRST: Roy Jones Jr.

Just one of those things I think needs to happen. They're both older, and it makes sense. I'm sure it would make money, and I think it's virtually made already anyway. So it's a safe bet.

NEXT: Either the winner of Taylor/Trinidad or Kelly Pavlik.

It'd be a tough fight with any of those three, and it'd be a nice name.

    FOLLOWED BY: Kelly Pavlik.

This is of course, if he chooses the Taylor/Trinidad winner, which he MIGHT. This fight would be a TRULY career defining fight.

    FINAL.. PERHAPS: Chad Dawson.

This would be the ultimate closer to a stellar career, ESPECIALLY if he got to this point with still being undefeated. He'd be able to firmly state that he beat anyone at or around his weight, that was worth beating.

I know this is far-fetched. That's not the point. The point is to just see who people want him to fight, how his legacy could be affected by what's to come and so on and so forth. Discuss.

I thought he was only gonna fight one more time and then retire. It would be nice to see him fight Pavlik,, but I don't really think it's gonna happen.

He's a boxer. What he says doesn't count.

joes smart like lennox lewis and knows when to leave this sport. He will not keep on fighting like you say he will, he is already pretty rich and I think his undefeated record says alot and that he really wants that record kept in tact. The longer he fights, the bigger risk he will make for himself. Calzaghe is basically already set for life, I don't think he needs to keep making more and more money. But then again I don't know how calzaghe thinks, I mean I consider him pretty rich right now and he surely could retire. He probably made like 10 mil fighting hopkins right or was it less?

True, but he's also a European boxer. Different breed.

He's made millions of dollars. The problem with it is that boxers want to box in the first place because it's what they do. It's like a mechanic. They never TRULY retire. It's just that with boxing, it's much more sad.

I have thought about this one lol
And i'd say that the fight well theres two and he should take either
are Kelly pavlic and Antonio Tarver and i reckon he should take the tarver fight.
Joe isnt gonna go down in weight so i dont think him and Pavlic will be able
              to come to an arrangement..
Beating Tarver gives him another title.
Jones Jnr makes no sense at all apart from entertainment and really
does Jones Jnr deserve the shot?
Great fighter future hall of famer no doubt but does he deserve the shot
next to guys like Tarver and Pavlic?
Jones was sparked by both Tarver and Johnson I just cant see what
Joe would gain by fighting him...

Going by Joes most recent interview, he does seem to be saying one more fight. He did seem keen on RJJ, but he's now talking of going back down to SMW, I see no point.

He's done it to death, is regarded as best, everything to lose, nothing to gain, even Pavlik imo. I did think RJJ would be best, but it it really is one more fight, I do think there's a logic to Tarver, at least getting belts etc. Low risk, everything to gain here.

I think he really wants to retire by taking kelly's 0 from him. How great of a feeling would it be to retire and take another boxers 0 from him before doing it? The greatest feeling on the planet, but Pavlik in no way in hell wants any part of Calzaghe. And Pavlik has a great power jab that people miss, and alot of biased Americans feel Kelly will win that fight. Not saying he can't but I don't even think Pavlik feels like he can beat Calzaghe since I haven't once heard him talk about Calzaghe. I've heard team pavlik talk alot of crap but nothing comes out of Pavliks mouth. I think Pavlik thinks hes not ready for Calzaghe or fears that Calzaghe could make him look like Jeff Lacy's stunt double.

If it's one fight only, I'd go for Pavlik/Tarver/Jones. But.. I still thik hes good enough to take the guys I mentioned.
