Why in the hell would they think that Roy would beat Calzaghe because Hopkins almost did? For ****s sake, Roy is shot and Bernard isn't. Hopkins also always had a better chin than Roy, was always tougher, and has better stamina. Please, Jones is not as crafty as Hopkins nor does he seriously study his opponents every movement the way Bernard does as well. Bernard is also naturally stronger than Jones.

If Calzaghe isn't around, then it wasn't meant to be. In the meanwhile Pavlik should focus on opponents in his own weight class like Abraham and Winky.
Absolutely, I never understood why some people could say that a fighter from a lower weight class could possibly be 'ducking' one from a higher weight class, especially when they only just emerged on the top recently. we have weight classes for a reason.

anyhow, Roy is quite past it. I was really surprised by how much trouble Calzaghe had with Hopkins...I thought he would have an easy time against Hopkins, but it was far from that.
but Roy is definately nowhere near his best at this point. I admire how he is switching up his game a bit to still be successful at the semi-top level, but Calzaghe is pretty close to his prime now in my estimation.

Calzaghe should win a pretty wide UD over Roy.

I can't pick. Calzaghe's a good fighter, but looked like he had little power when fighting Hopkins. I can only see Roy's chin getting checked by a real LHW and not many of 'em as it is. Calzaghe's work rate and Roy's preference for counterpunching off the ropes might cost him more rounds than he would like though and Roy might lose a decision.

I can see Roy dropping Calzaghe a few times along the way though, although not winning by KO either. Roy still has magnificent coordination and snap to his punches so if he clocks him the way Hopkins did, he could drop him.

Both fighters are pretty flatfooted and both have great handspeed, Roy has better defense and straighter more accurate punches though. The thing that bothered Joe most during his fight was Hopkins was the 43 year old's experience, Roy is at least as smart a fighter.

To me it all comes down to Jones' size and smarts against Joe's workrate. I want Roy to win, but I really don't know if he will

I dont think Clazaghe can beat Jones if he puts him the ropes Roy will throw the counter uppercut off the ropes between Calzaghes wide punches. In the middle of the ring Calzaghe has quick hands, at 39 Jones hands are still much faster. If Calzaghe can take the counters and keep pressuring he wins the fight easily if he gets gun-shy Roy wins.

I don't like the option "jones kos the fraud calzaghe" - surely Calzaghe has proved time and time again he isn't a fraud at all?

I can actually see where people are coming from with those kinds of comments, his performance against Hopkins discredited him in a lot of ways as people thought he would go through him. Calling him a fraud is going a bit overboard though, he definitely is the best fighter at 168

1/2 Roy is still more than what Joe brings to the table.
