Yeah B-Hop actually on the run from Joe most noticable end of round 11, he tries to MOVE AROUND Cortez when Joe advances. B-Hop was on his way to a place he'd never experienced before - the pace was unfathomable for him, which explains all his ridiculous behaviour. He was acting out of fear.

Er, 127 clinches in a fight is one every 17 seconds.

160 clinches in a fight is one every 13.5 seconds (36 mins = 2160 seconds / 160 clinches = 13.5)

BTW, I'd venture to guess that Calzaghe-Kessler had less than 20 clinches. The same goes for Calzaghe - Lacy.

Good man, thanks for putting me right. I don't have the clinch count written down, I was doing it from memory. There were more clinches in the Calzaghe-Kessler fight than I thought, but nowhere near hopkins-Calzaghe. Stats below.

NOTES:

Calzaghe always clinches in round one, you can pretty much guarantee this in any of his fights. He does this to gauge his opponents' strength. Watch any Calzaghe fight and see it.

Many clinches in this fight were very brief and do not suggest either man was tired, they look like they were more intended to temporarily tie the opponent up. Several clinches look unintentional, they just happened to get tangled up.

Here's some stats for you. I counted the clinches playing the video at 2x speed (it's hard work watching this snoozefest) but the numbers should be accurate. There were quite a number of times Hopkins tried to hold but failed. These failed attempts are, of course, not counted. Near the end of round 11, Hopkins tried to bait Calzaghe into a brawl, so Calzaghe came forward... and they clinched. LOL.

A cynical man may suggest that Cortez likes to lean certain ways during a fight, I mean he dived in each time Mayweather and Hatton touched skin yet he allowed so many clinches in the Hopkins v Calzaghe fight???

Either way the clinching/lack of clinching had no impact on the result of either fights but.......
