Hopkins just got beaten up by Calzaghe which was basically because Calzaghe threw so many punches a round and Hopkins is too old. Margarito could do the same thing. as long as he threw one hundred punches a round he would own Hopkins. Hopkins can't throw more than 9 punches a round anymore and someone as brutal and offensive as Margarito would have a field day with an old guy like Hopkins.

Doesn't matter about the weight because Margarito has a better chin than Calzaghe and Calzaghe took most of Hopkins punches well. He is also one of the biggest welterweights ever and one of the best aggressive WW's ever! That shows that Margarito would be able to take anything Hopkins threw and come back with ten punches to Hopkins' one.

Hopkins might look ok for a round or three ut the pressure would start to wear on Hopkins and Margarito's constant, smart effective aggression would break Hopkins down and by the fifth round he would be trying to dirty tactics like he did against Calzaghe in the tenth round. It's even possible that Margarito could stop Hopkins towards the end of the fight because the more Hopkins tires the stronger Margarito becomes and towards the end he would be throwing over a hundred punches while Hopkins would have slowed to trying to defend himself and that's it. The ref would stop it about the 11th or twelfth round I think due to the pressure, strength, chin, determination, and having no regard for Hopkins' life.

Margarito would break down Hopkins' body with brutal shots to the liver at the start of the fight and eventually wear him down and stop him towards the end. If he didn't stop him it would be a pretty wide UD for Margarito maybe only losing the first one or two, maybe three rounds. After that though he would just get broken down and Margarito would start beating him up like he did to Cotto around the ninth, tenth etc. Hopkins would just lie on the ropes getting brutalised by the offense of Margarito. No one that throws a few or more punches a round can beat someone that throws over a hundred, especially if they're fighting someone as dangerous and offensive as Margarito is.

            Are you serious?

I normally agree with you, but... Hopkins has a great right hand, and a welterweight's iron chin is probably not going to be quite so iron when he is fighting a light heavyweight who weighs 190 on fight night.

In addition, Hopkins showed that he has a lot of tricks to kill even the most active of workrates, as he did against Calzaghe. His movement is as good as anyone else's in the sport, and he is just insanely good at clinching to avoid inside punishment coming back at him.

Finally, I think Hopkins would wear Margarito down, because he does know exactly how to get the most efficient forms of sneaky punishment in when he is in a clinch... he hits on the side, the hips, the legs, etc. All places that Margarito can ill afford to have weakened, since his success in the fight would depend on workrate. Keep in mind how weakened nearly every Hopkins opponent is in the late rounds. Taylor I anyone?

There is just absolutely no way a WW who relies on physicality is beating a LHW with good movement, good chin, and great counterpunching. It's just not physically possibly IMO.

              1. Take into consideraton that Margarito has REALLY slow hand speed at 147.

              2. He ain't gonna be moving as fast at 175. Considering how damn slow he is at 147.

              3. B-Hop has a right straight that will land whenever the F he wanted.

              4. I always always agree with you but damn...not on this topic.

Margarito owns Hopkins easily. Hopkins is too slow, old, inactive, and doesn't punch hard enough to hurt Margarito. Margarito, on the other hand, is ultra active, punches hard and gets stronger as the fight wears on. He is also much more skilled than most people think. If you watch his fights closely, you can actually see him doing certain things that make his opponent fall into his fight plan. Hopkins would honestly get the **** beaten out of him.
