It was very far from living up to the expectations” Palle said to Danish TV2. “Calzaghe had 6-7 clean hits. The rest was just a lot of combos without any effect. The high-point of the fight came with the Welshman being floored. I was surprised that Hopkins didn’t try to end the fight at that time. Weird.”
The fight did prove that Kessler’s performance against Joe was top-class. “Mikkel didn’t spar in the lead-up to the Calzaghe fight due to a serious hand-injury and still goes 12 rounds with him. Now Calzaghe defeats Hopkins after 12 rounds and that puts Mikkel’s persormance in Wales in proper context” Palle said.
