    Amateur-like punches

One of the commentators of HBO said that Calzaghe was throwing amateur-like punches.

I think that is absolutely correct and that is exactly the reason why I don't like Calzaghe as a fighter. He is coming forward just throwing alot of ineffective punches, hitting nothing but gloves and air.

I agree that he won the fight, but i'm still not impressed by his performance.

Ya i remember Manny saying that. I agree as well, while those punches didnt hurt hopkins, it was more than enough to win the fight for Calzaghe imo

Neither Hopkins nor Calzaghe are orthodox fighters. Calzaghe will slap his way to a victory, and try to do the patented "De la Hoya ineffective flurry" to steal the round. Hopkins will try to headbutt, elbow, shoulder, low blow and act his way to a victory, and will spend most rounds trying to con you into a sucker punch.

          Amatuer style!?

          or boxing like an Amatuer.

One is correct, one is not i guess. Joe does slap, but slaps are heavily penalised in the Amatuer boxing game - unlike the pro's. In many respects Calzaghes shots are nothing like an Am. Amateurs should be given more credit than this.

They shouldn't win fights... which is my problem w/ all of this.

The sport of boxing should be about beating your opponent, not scoring points from judges. I understand that not every fight will be a knockout, but scoring points for fighters whose punches have no intention of doing damage of any sort hurts the sport of boxing in the long run.

There is no such thing as an amature punch and a pro punch. A punch is a punch.

Calzaghe won the fight fair and square, its a bitter pill to swalow for some but its true.

no, I don't think he will care.

I just said that i don't like his style and he's not impressing me with his "de la hoya copied non-effective flurries".

The sport of boxing is about hitting and not being hit, Calzaghe outlanded Hopkins with jabs and power shots.

                    End of story.
