Mr. 'fair but firm', when refereeing an American fighter against a Brit is not fair. He selects which style of fight suites the american, with Hatton vs. Castillo he allowed Hatton to fight on the inside, against Mayweather this was non existent. Hatton was penalised for an illegal punch which didn't even land. Mayweather used his forearms frequently and was never warned. With Joe Calaghe vs. Hopkins, Cortez allowed the inside fighter to fight his fight. he allowed both fighters to use rabbit punches and allowed Hopkins to clash heads with Calzaghe several times... He even let Hopkins take breaks when he was tired! If Cortez thought two low blows were landed (which they were not), then surely Calzaghe should of had a point deducted or let the fight continue?!
