    Joe's status if he wins?

If Joe wins, what is his status in your eyes?

p4per, the man at SMW and LHW, legend, same status as Trinidad, Winky, Hopkins etc, whatever you want to call it, RESPECTED.

    OR

Joe still has more to prove?

Calzaghe should have had respect before this fight. If he wins though, it will skyrocket.

depends also on the way he wins. if he wins in not a convincing way, people are gonna say he struggled against a 43 year old guy....but if he wins clearly then that would make it an important win. dont know about his first loss, but hopkins only clear loss was against roy jones, cos against taylor it was very close on both fights.
imo hopkins is 43, but beating him, is not easy, and if joe wins in ana impressive way, then joes status should go to at least a top 3 p4p.

          He should already be respected.

Though it might make him #2 p4p if he wins in a good fashion.

Well said! He has long deserved more respect and recognition than he's received.

There will be people like TheManchine that will go on and on about Hopkin's age to discredit the win.

I'm really pleased to see that most people will consider Calzaghe's name along with all the other modern day 'legends' if he wins this fight. I really think that's the correct assessment, and am dreading the near certain age based deriding of his win.

I had expected more people saying the win won't mean much to be honest, and I'm really impressed with the objectivity of the results so far. Kudos to boxingscene posters!

Joe deserves respect win or lose.

However he has more to gain with this win than hopkins does.

Bernard Hopkins has basically already cemented his legacy in the "of all time" ranks...worldwide.

Joe Calzaghe has cemented his legacy thoughout the world with the exception of some of the U.S.

There are going to be a LOT of casual fans watching this fight and calling up there friends saying, "Bernard Hopkins fought that guy last night; did you see it?". They dont know joe; or what he's done for the sport and been such a dominant figure in the world (like i said; with the exception of the U.S.)

So if Calzaghe wins he's done a great deal to help his career with just one win. Should he win tonight and i believe thats what the U.S. fans will remember him by; beating hopkins.

Hopkins win or lose i believe his spot in history doesnt get effected too greatly. maybe in the current p4p ranks of course; but overall it wont dramatically help or hurt his career.

For calzaghe it could really push his career to a whole new level. and the exact for hopkins it wont dramatically change his current p4p rankings.

This is going to be a good fight and both really have something to gain; calzaghe taking his career to a whole new level (with the general U.S. fans) and hopkins can prove even though he's 43 he still can compete with the very best.
