Cotto Opens As The Betting Favorite Over Margarito

    Cotto -140

    Margarito +110

A "minus sign" (-) preceding the number indicates a favorite.

A "plus sign" (+) preceding the number indicates an underdog.

    Example:

    Mike Tyson -260

    Evander Holyfield +220

Tyson is favored to win the bout. If Tyson wins, a $26 bet would win $10 and return $36. If Holyfield wins, a $10 bet would win $22 and return $32.

I'm honestly surprised its that close, i was expecting Cotto to be more like -200, i guess the lines makers know a lot more than i do...

Inevitably, the odds get further apart. Potentially here.

Judah is now a heavy underdog to Mosley, and the odds opened fairly tight.

I understand these things, but only a little.

Like what does -140 and +110 mean exactly? I know it has to do with cash gain when betting, but...can anyone give me an example?

If the fight were today (with those odds), what would that mean? Suppose I would bet for Cotto, how much would I have to bet and how much would I potentially gain?

And how do these oddsmakers come up with this?

        Just curious.

Margarito is an entertaining fighter, but his style is so bad for him to take on cotto. Cotto will him all night long

Missed that part, if it's a Cotto fight they ask Gerardofpr, Baya and JoeR.

They actually post here funny enough..
