LOL, 6 years ago no one outside of Wales and other professional boxers knew who the hell Joe Calzaghe was and he didn't have any recognizable wins on this resume. Hopkins fought Trinidad 6-7 years ago and unified all the middleweight belts for the first time since Hagler so why would he move up in weight to fight a guy no one really knew about in a division that no one really cared about, when he still had much more big middleweight fights to be made?

What are you talking about man! Hopkins knew exactly who Calzaghe was, that's why he agreed to fight him and then pulled out the day before the contract was finalized. Why would Hopkins take it so far, then price himself out (asking for 6 million instead of the agreed-upon 3 million), only to take a fight with Hakkar for a smaller pay day?

Hakkar was a mandatory fight. And I know Hopkins knew who he was but again, the risk/reward wasn't worth it (again, Calzaghe was relatively unknown and was in a higher division.)
