Anthony Mundine May Move To Middleweight

The WBA has ordered that Anthony Mundine must mandatory challenger Mikkel Kessler in a rematch. Mundine has to first beat Sam Soliman in their trilogy bout in May, but Kessler would have to be his next opponent within 90-days or Mundine runs the risk of being stripped of his WBA "regular" super middleweight title. Joe Calzaghe is recozgnized as the WBA's "super champion" at 168. [details]

At MW, if he maintains his lightning hands and power he can beat anyone.

Its a question if he is willing to fight the best.

Im hearing hes after Winky, hard!.

If that falls through he will be the last fight on the undercard to RJJ to build a fan base.

To be honest mate I doubt Mundine at top level , Id like to get behind him but I cant , I see lots of things about him I dont like as a fighter and it started with Echols , he ran like a rabbit all night when he could have gone for a big win as he was in total control and Echols was nothing but a reputation and Choc was hurting him , he was **** frightened to risk engaging , he did the same with Green , had him whipped and never went for it , this fight had a 3 yr rivalry, and he dont go for it , biggest fight in Aus history , and he dont go for it , come on think about it , the core of a fighter is born its not made , you cant be not real to beat a Pavlik type fighter because they are gunna make you fight and it here I reckon Choc will fold , , when Siacca dropped him he would not engage and just sat back and lost and Siacca is a C grade fighter , in my view he only had a go at Kessler because Kessler does not press and is cautious , it was safe for Mundine to do a bit of chest beating because he had speed on Kessler and angles , but he never had a go at Kessler , not a real one ! ,,, he is a bully if your really over powered but if you fight back like Nader did he backs of , and these are C level guys ,I went and saw him beat the argie on the Gold Coast not long ago and sure he won easy , but he got hit in the 4th I think was the round with a wild big hook and his eyes lit up with that look I dont like seeing ,,, I honestly think he will fold the first time he is in a battle with an elite fighter , good luck to him and I hope Im wrong and he goes on to big things on the world scene as it would be great for us and you know we need all the help we can get in Aussie boxing ,,,, by the way Briggs retired today officially , trainer said his nerves are shot , all the best to Paul , tough tough fighter was Paul Briggs !

I tend to see his performances against Green and Kessler as impressive. He lost to Kessler by the same margin that Kessler lost to Calzaghe. And it was his mental state that made him loose, more than Kessler won.

Against Sturm, i can see Mundine stopping him. I think he can get a UD over Abraham, his wide loopy punches will be countered.

My hypothesis is the SMW division is a lot better than the MW division. He should do well.

Getting past Winky or Sturm is the first step. Which will be hard but a good indicator. Lets wait and see.

i like mundine but guys being bigger isnt an excuse, mayweather gives away around 10 pound in most of his fights at welter an jnr middle, against de la hoya he gave away around 12 pounds, guys like toney fight natural heavyweights who are 5 inches taller than them and carry the weight far better, its not really an excuse if your as skilled as mundine claims to be

It's quite obvious what is happening. Anthony is moving down because a lot of quality fighters are moving up. The eye infection should have destroyed his career, but he continued. Gotta realise he's effectively a 'comeback' fighter with a title and his team are being cautious with him. They're trying to see what the injury did to him. How much mileage remains. His manager and his family told him to quit. He didn't quit. What pisses everyone is him calling himself The Champ, and he's not fighting the best. And he's not the real champ. Joe is. Jermaine, Kelly, Mikkel and others are in his neighbourhood, and he's looking for a new address.

I've read elsewhere - and I don't know the veracity of the statements and stand to be corrected - that his undercard fighters don't get paid. They get paid with the spotlight - not with cash. It's no small coincidence that Mundine's undercards are a pile of ****.

I'll never buy a Mundine fight on PPV. His skills are admirable and his style is good to watch. He's a smart guy, and his old man is greatly loved in Australia. But I won't go there. Such a shame he's the biggest drawcard in Australian boxing. Guys like Mike Katsidis and Billy Dib are so much more likable, and no-one gives a ****. I hope Sam springs an upset and beats Mundine. Why anyone without a free ticket would show-up is beyond me.

Paul Briggs is out of the game. If so, it's our loss. Didn't need to know 'his nerves are shot'. I can't imagine Johnny Lewis saying that. And if he did, it's none of our business. Perhaps Paul's a little smarter than others. Thanks Paul. Those fights against that Polak are unforgettable. Write another book, and name names. :-)

Kesslers camp backs out of the Miranda fight because they had Mikkel moved up as #1 Contender. Then Mundine rather wants to fight Sam Soliman again, and wants no part of Kessler.

Then they got Miranda magiclly moved up as #2 Contender, and Palle talked to HBO on making a Kessler-Miranda fight for a vacant title, June 21st, and HBO liked the idea, then Miranda backs up.
