All the arguments for Bernard seem to have two main points

    i. He has a better resume: let's say for arguments sake he does have a better resume, Joe is a superior skilled fighter.

ii. He can nullify his opponents biggest threat: So he stops Joe from throwing 1000 punches a round, he may even cut his punch output in half, Joe will still land more punches than Bernard.

Hopkins doesn't have a better resume.

He's defeated smaller men: Trinidad, De La Hoya and Wright. Whenever he's fought a world class opponent his own size, HE'S LOST! (Jones, Taylor)

When Calzaghe fought worlds class fighters his own size, he's won (Eubank, Kessler, and Lacy).

It depends on your definition of skilled. Calzaghe is the more naturally gifted fight, the more talented, and that is why I pick him as well. If that is your definition of skilled, then what has been said so far as fine. However, I would define skill in this context as boxing skill. Hopkins, as the evil genius he is in the ring, may be the most skilled fighter in terms of pure boxing skill since... since... Well, pick your fighter, but it has been a while.

I disagree that Calzaghe is more skilled. Calzaghe has bigger balls, Hopkins is actually more skilled. Alot of what Joe does is to compensate for tactical gaps and his Italian rythm by going ape-**** and taking chances.

Tooling straight ahead fighters like Lacy and Kessler is ****in wonderful, but Calzaghe has looked sloppy and lost control on numerous occasions with competition Bernard would have roped and saddled more effectively.

Joe Calzaghe has better footwork, faster hands, better balance, better movement, a faster busier jab and better punching technique (and please don't talk about slaps I'm reffering to real punching, technique that incorporates movement from ankle to wrist).

Joe would have beaten everyone Hopkins beat and Jermain Taylor.

Imagine what Calzaghe would have done to Trinidad or Oscar?

I also think Kessler would beat everyone Hopkins beat.

I don't know about Calzaghe being more skilled then BHop. They have different types of skills that they have mastered to their own benefit.

I consider them both having an almost equal level of skill at what they do and I'm sure that Hopkins would have given Calzaghe a great fight back when he was younger but now I'm not so sure... I'm expecting a dull fight and I'm not really even looking forward to it.

Now this Hopkins vs Calzaghe would be something I would pay to see.
