P4P - Greatest of all time - Joe Calzaghe?

I doubt it.
anyways, I think that Calzaghe should at least start getting wins over real Light Heavyweights before anyone starts to even consider him anywhere close to the greatest of all time...
hell, the guy only has 1 win over a HOFer in Eubank, and that was the end of Eubank's career(although he was in no way 'shot'). his only other credible wins are...Kessler...Lacy...Reid is a pretty nice one, although that fight was slightly controversial...Sheika, Brewer, Mitchell, theyre OK wins...
Its not in the least bit a bad record, but honestly now...When you are trying to call someone an "All Time Great", you have to realise youre comparing them with the best fighters of All Time...Comment

You miss my point, Chunk. There is no point in me trying to enlighten you, I'd just be spitting out my opinion and you probably wouldn't value it.Comment

I think the Reid fight is only slightly controversial because everyone expects Joe to thrash anyone and everyone, whether it's in the older days when he was knocking out most of his opponents in less than two rounds, or beating them by wide points margins. There are reasons why he performed badly against Reid, unfortunately these reasons are not considered. However, even an ill and injured Calzaghe clearly pulled out at least a couple of extra rounds over Reid. It was 7-5 at the least. Every fighter is gonna have a bad night occasionally. Joe's had a single close fight in 18 years and he takes all kinds of **** for it. It's not completely fair.Comment

you make very good points, and I agree with pretty much all of them...I dont really remember how I scored that fight, I might never have in fact, so Ill have to rewatch it again before this weekend...since Reid is probebly the closest thing to Hopkins Calzaghe has ever fought.I think the Reid fight is only slightly controversial because everyone expects Joe to thrash anyone and everyone, whether it's in the older days when he was knocking out most of his opponents in less than two rounds, or beating them by wide points margins. I would say that hes had other bad nights too though...it just didnt end up showing up on the scorecards. he just didnt look too good in general. but of course, its the most fair to judge a fighter at their best.
although I have to admit that a lot of the reason he never had trouble with people was that sometimes he wasnt faced with amazing competition. I mean, its not amazing that he outclassed guys like Branco Sobot and Tocker Podwill...
I think Ill wait to review his career in full after its over, however.Comment

Indeed. Although, to be fair, Pudwill was a replacement on 2 weeks notice. I really don't think Pudwill should have been anywhere near a boxing ring with Calzaghe in it, though. Atrotious match up.you make very good points, and I agree with pretty much all of them...I dont really remember how I scored that fight, I might never have in fact, so Ill have to rewatch it again before this weekend...since Reid is probebly the closest thing to Hopkins Calzaghe has ever fought.
