I just watching some of that fight earlier today, but only watched the first round. I'll probably finish it tomorrow.

In the early stages of his career he was a one dimensional fighter, always ploding forward looking for hooks, with little defence and poor footwork.
Now he looks so much better, he has developed a superb powerful jab and can box very well when he chooses. As well as a better boxer his defence has improved greatly and now sometimes uses a philly shell type defence to counter punch like he did to mosley.
If this wasnt enough i've noticed he picks his shots even better now and doesnt waste that many punches.
Out of all the improvements i've listed the best improvment to miguel's game is his boxing brain.
I say this because now he thinks when he fights and has become methodical in his approach to beating his opponent. This was most evident in the mosley fight in the latter rounds when miguel realised he couldnt hurt mosley so boxed his way through instead of trying to match mosley power punch to power punch, which to old cotto would have done.
        thanks for reading.
I agree to some extent but the philly shell ain't working so great. He was getting clipped by Gomez alot. Cotto also isn't huge on accuracy, he doesn't need to worry about it at this weight with his strength. He just leaps in and swings really ****in hard. I've watched the Gomez fight in slo-mo a few times now, but my initial impression was very similiar.

he's been a absolute beast at 147. i think now that he's not completely drained from cutting weight, his chin and his stamina have been at a 100%, he's always been a solid boxer, but you could say that he's polished now, or so it would seem.

i wasn't a fan at first, i thought that he was someone they were trying to make into the next trinidad, not that, that is a bad thing, i just didn't think he was going to earn it, and cotto has done that, he's a class act and he knows how to get it done in the ring. if he has his guy beat, he gets them out of there. if his opponent is making it tight cotto knows how to get the rounds and land some real big clean shots, he has impressed me greatly these last 2-3 years.
