On a danish website Matin Kristjansen has made a blog where he writes of his recent fight with Amir Khan. Martin tells of the build-up, his stay in Bolton, the weigh-in, the day of the fight and the fight itself. It's very interesting, well-written stuff and Martin tells open-heartedly of his thoughts leading up to the biggest fight of his career.
It's a long blog and since I don't get paid for this(!) I've only translated the portion concerning the fight:
"The fight:
I felt I was matching Khan fine in round 1. I did have the feeling that he wanted the fight over with inside the first few rounds, but I told myself that it wasn't going to happen!
I quickly found out how fast his hands really were. He has a brilliant long jab and a great hook/swing. He puts good combos together and I could feel the crowds reaction when he did that.
I manage to put some pressure on him, pushing him back and takes the center of the ring. But his pattern of movement is very good and I can't execute my right as much as I want to. It's difficult to get within punching-distance without throwing myself at him. But then he promtly would punish me with his quickness.
My seconds were fantastic, positive. But I dont think it's going as well as I would like. But the air was fine and the first 6 rounds passed relative quick.
Round 7:
Of the 7. round I remember that I by the first count takes a knee as I feel hit and need a breather. Khan keeps on punching and I thought: "Hell I AM down". Ref. Vann wasn't there quickly enough, and I was hit unnecessary. My brother and second raced to the ropes shouting at the ref. I didn't know how much time was left, but I could see that Khan smelled blood. I knew I had to try to survive the round.
Khan swarmed me instantly. I felt he more or less ran me down instead of punching. By the next counts I was in distress. Had difficulty finding a way out of his attacks. So it was ok for Mickey Vann to stop the fight.
The question was if Khan should have had a point deducted or if I could have had a little extra time to recover!
After the fight I'm obviuosly disapointed. I would have liked to go the distance. But the kid is damn good and I think he is a future world champion.
After the fight, we had a short pressconference and I got a shower. At the hotel I enjoyed a pint with friends, family and girlfriend and we took the plane home next day. All in all a good trip, an experience I wouldn't be without. I'm glad I took the chance but I must recognize my limitations and abilities."
