almost a full 3 months of promotions - if arum pulls out all the stop's he can take this event to more than 500k

I agree. With proper promotion, it will do around the 500k range.

Hopefully it'll be on free HBO but if it's not I think it'll make around 400k.

thats exactly what i say. But if it is done correctly and with all this hype it could surpass the 500k mark. Cotto Molsey did 400k with hardly any media attention. Imagine this fight...Its a fans wet dream

I believe you guys are delusional. Mosley is a bigger draw than Margarito and he only did 400K with Cotto. I think a Cotto-Margarito PPV probably does somewhere between 350-375K, even with tons of promotion. This isn't big enough for a 24/7 series by HBO and I doubt that Arum will be able to sell Margarito as the super Mexican he thinks that he is.

In the end, PPVs are sold on the fighter's name recognition. Margarito isn't a household name like Mosley, DLH, PBF, or even Hatton. If the quality of the match-up were the primary source of PPV sales, Castillo-Corrales and Vazquez-Marquez would've been on PPV, not free on Showtime.

This fight is catering to 2 very large fanbases. Mexicans and Puerto Ricans. Cotto is also a favorite amongst casual fans. This fight will go good numbers.

Hmm, we had twice the number of Puerto Ricans and Mexicans on the card this saturday but it was on free HBO. Why? Because, on their own, Cotto and Margarito can't draw enough to make it worth Arum's while to put it on a PPV card. You think that both, combined, will equal more buys than Cotto-Mosley, who is more known to casual fans than both Margarito and Cotto combined?

Yes, Puerto Ricans and Mexicans are avid followers of their fighters, but Cotto is no Trinidad and Margarito is no Oscar. Their fight, while exciting and very promising for fans, just doesn't have the potential that most people here think it does.

How many PPVs, outside of PR does Calderon get? He's one of the island's favorite fighters, yet he can't draw a fly to ****. Just because a fighter is from PR doesn't mean that he has the backing of the island when it comes to PPV buys. Cotto-Judah did 250K buys, add in about the same number of buys for a Margarito match, plus maybe 100K more for the Mexican market out west, and I think you've reached the limit at around 350K buys.
