LAS VEGAS, NEV - JOE CALZAGHE, boxing's current longest-reigning world champion, greeted hundreds of fans and media at his grand arrival at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas today. Calzaghe (44-0, 32 KOs), from Newbridge, Wales, the super middleweight champion since October 11, 1997, has successfully defended his title a division-record 21 consecutive times, fourth-best on boxing's all time list. The only super middleweight champion to have held every major belt, Calzaghe makes his U.S. and light heavyweight debut this Saturday when he challenges Philadelphia's Bernard Hopkins (48-4-1, 32 KOs), for Hopkins title in a rare battle of The Ring magazine champions. I think Calzaghe would have been better off saving it for after the fight. People expect him to beat Hopkins. I kind of even expect him to beat Hopkins even though I have a bet that says otherwise. But it's kind of gotten to the point where if he doesn't either shut him out or KO him he won't have proven anything.Comment

Rest assured that if Calzaghe does win, he will have earned it. Well, the thing about the Hopkins-Calzaghe build-up was that everyone said that Hopkins had no chance of getting into Joe's head, he was too cool and calm, and I was one of the ones who believed that...
...until now.
The fact hat Joe keeps going out of his way to insult Hopkins means that he's gotten to him. Hopkins' demeanor, his talk about his "dream team", they've gotten inside Joe's head. Joe wants to keep telling himself that Hopkins has "no chance", but if you ask me, Joe's sloly but surely figuring out that he's got a HELL of a chance.Comment
