It sucks Tony has to ditch his belt but neither one could have a belt and it would still be the biggest 147 lb fight out there as long as Floyd is doin other ****.
lose to Margarito, beat bums, and be promoted by Bob Arum
cant forget what clottey did to margarito in the first 3 rounds before that hand injury (which hand was it? left?) in the 4th. and marg still wasn't able to knock him out.
people probably think of that fight when someone mentions clottey, and be like "oh yeah, he could've beat margarito".

fighters break their hands all the time, the difference is, the great ones find ways to fight through it and still pull out a victory. Clottey is good but his biggest accomplishment is losing to Margarito, and its not like Margarito is the greatest fighter out there.
Well it makes sense to keep everybody happy but I still hope for the day we could have a Welterweight Unification tournament. As amazing as boxing is now, if we had that it would be even greater.
Imagine Mayweather, Cotto, Margarito, Quintana, the winner of Mosley/Judah, Clottey, Cintron, and Collazo all in a tournament for a unified Championship.
Titles never stay unified. Back when the WBO wasn't recognized the title was unified but it got splintered when Zab lost to Baldomir (who many people willfully forget was one of Zab's mandatories) and Baldomir decided to face Gatti instead of one of his mandatories.
Trust me, these tournaments are nearly impossible to put together because it's nearly impossible to placate all of the mandatories. Then the undisputed champ wants a big money fight because of all of his belts but some mandatory wants it enforced. So, his fans come on message board spamming about how unfair boxing is, etc, etc.
The tournament would be nice, but what comes after it is ugly. We're at that point right now. It's been five years since the last time they unified the welterweight division.

yeah yeah yeah, "the first 3 rounds" blah blah, thats the only thing that comes out when Clottey vs Margarito gets mentioned, he lost, simple as that..
