From ign podcast:
Don King: "we changed some of the names of the people, but we will have some the key names that will be in there [because] some of the real fighters have made deals with different companies that would be in opposition to 2K. The ones that I have a rights to, I will be able to utilize [too]."
Link:
Translation: beyond the licensed roster, there will be other major fighters present but listed under different names.
Hopefully, these name-changed fighters will closely resemble the actual fighters in terms of appearance and traits. I'm not sure how far they can go without getting sued, but I'm sure Don King does.
Official roster is pretty dissapointing, though.Comment

I'm not too bothered about the roster, I'm more concerned that the actual boxing is more realistic than Fight Night is (I think Fight Night is fun, but not realistic), also I hope the career mode is a lot more in depth.Comment

Why are you guys surprised by this roster? For one, most of the Fight Night guys may very well be tied up in contracts so it wouldn't even be possible for them to be in the game. Secondly, and most importantly, this is 2k Sports, not the mega-giant EA. Money is in much more limited supply.
Anyway, this doesn't really matter. I'm skeptical that 2k will be able to match the multiplayer fun of FN3. Who really cares about the roster? The names could all be generic since the gameplay is what will make or break the game. I don't have big confidence in 2k (though they make by far the best basketball games and in their early years a product superior to Madden) to make a quality boxing game though.Comment
