Michael Spinks or Bob Foster, too close to call. While Jones was the most talented, these guys accomplished more in the division and beat the better line of fighters.

Gene Tunney, who's record was 81-1-3.

Avenged his one loss (to all-time great Harry Greb) not once, not twice, but three times.

Over 120,000 were in attendance for his first win over Jack Dempsey!

He had his career interrupted early by WW I, and he joined the marines and went overseas to fight. Was known after that as "The Fighting Marine"...

could get off the canvas mutiple times and come back to win

Micheal Moorer was a great light heavyweight. He would have knocked Jones out.

Ezzard Charles seems to be the consensus choice by "historians", but was frozen out of the title picture. Archie Moore, who was 0-3 against Charles, is another candidate.

So are Bob Foster and Michael Spinks for that matter.

Slapse Maxie is quite underrated, as he's an ATG light-heavy with an incredible resume.

There were many great light heavyweights.
Starting from Philadelphia Jack O'Brien, Tommy Loughran, Maxie Rosenbloom and Gene Tunney who fought in the early 1900's to Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, Bob Foster, Michael Spinks and Roy Jones Jr who fought in the mid/late 1900's, they were all great (and that's not nearly all of the great LHW's).

It's hard to say who is the best. I guess you could make a good case for almost all of them.
