He was born in Carolina, as far as I know. Personally, even if he was born in New York (or in his case, Philadelphia), he's a Puertorican to me.

A lot of New York born Puertoricans are a lot more "boricuas" than some of the island-born Puertoricans I meet daily.

And, regarding to the original post, I don't think so (right now). Most non-boxing I meet here don't even know who he is, and Puerto Rico is a boxing nation. They know Quintana for his huge Moca/Mayaguez/San Sebastian following and because some local analysts were saying that Quintana could beat Cotto.

Cintrón needs to do some heavy local publicity stunts in order to gain following.
