    Barrera vs. Marquez

Does anybody else find Barrera's claim to be unmotivated against Marquez as kind of an excuse? He said in the countdown to his 2nd fight with Pacquiao that it was "just another fight for the job, nothing more" but he looked pretty damn good in that fight.

I personally still do think Marquez won, but the scores were a bit too one-sided, it was closer than the judges made it seem, and Barrera looked good.

    Thoughts?

Not a bad performance for him.But I don't think he was unmotivated for that fight. You could say he was unmotivated for the re-match with Pac!

he looked pretty motivated to me during the fight. he's had issues with training camps before and the first loss to Pacquioa affected him mentally in my opinion. I think the fight should had been a draw by the way counting Barrera's KD of Marquez.

Yeah, Barrera should have gotten the knockdown, and the fact that he punched JMM while he was down didn't help. So basically, he lost a point, and got screwed out of another by (I think it was Nady) not calling the KD.

No idea how he missed that, it was clear as day.

He was just trying to use an excuse to tell the fans (and maybe himself) that he could win the rematch with Pacquiao.

Better than to say "Marquez beat me but I am getting kind of old and slower and more hittable and Pacquiao, who I am fighting soon, destroyed me when I was younger"

It wasnt so much that he was unmotivated against Marquez as it was unmotivated in general. The lifestyle elite boxers live is very restricting and any normal person would get tired of it real quick. Barrera put up with the lifestyle pretty much his whole life and reached the top of the mountain, but to keep dieting and training to stay at the top of that mountain at age 33 is very draining mentally. He looked good in the Marquez fight because that was his muscle memory taking over but it doesnt mean that he was "motivated" To copy a line from the rockyIII when "you lost the eye of the tiger" There's just no winning a fight against someone who is simply hungrier no matter how good you are.

              everyone has an excuse.

              nothing wrong with that.

when a reporter asks you , "why do you think you lost?" , what are you gonna say?

              "he's better than me." ?

great fighters like marco can't accept defeat they shouldn't. the arrogance , the self confidence is what makes them great.

with erik it's the weight drain. marco was the fires at training camp or lack of motivation. manny was the cut or headbutt or blisters on his feet because of socks. i know it's just excuses but they have to think that way.

......and so do their fans. :-)
