one of the worst stoppages ever?

i just got done watching calzaghe vs manfredo and im wondering why the hell did the ref stop this fight? yeah i know calzaghe was throwing a bunch of punches and manfredo wasnt but manfredo wasnt hurt at all and it looked like he was lettin calzaghe punch himself out. whatever happened to letting fighters fight til a ko or til all rounds are complete or if a fighter is obviously too beat up to continue the fight then stop the fight. these days theres too many fights being stopped to early and im not sayin i want fighters to kill themselves but i think referees are makin too many mistakes stopping fights early.

This ones already been gone over at length in another post. May have been slightly premature, 10 secs more, I think you'd be surprised though, shame as it would have been undeniable then.

No doubt it was a hasty stoppage, but is there one honest person who thinks the result would have been different if Manfredo had been allowed to continue? He looked outclassed from the opening bell.

Oh definitely. If you sit down and watch a fight, you want it to have a satisfying conclusion. This was a matchup that shouldn't have caused any controversy.

The fight should have been stopped before it started.

Once again, a fight I did not like to see stopped, but it's the losing fighter's fault. You simply cannot let someone just tee off on you with 40 unanswered shots, whether they are quick, light punches, whether or not they land, etc. You just can't do it. He was taking punches, and went purely defensive up against the ropes. This isn't a Rocky movie, dude. You aren't Ali in Zaire. You will get stopped if you do that ****, especially in an electric atmosphere on the road as a huge underdog. Now Manfredo knows. If I was the ref, I wouldn't have stopped it, but you have to fault Manfredo most of all.
