ya i hate when up and coming fighters fight in their home town, 117-111 was ridiculous as was 116-112. I could understand Teddys score because it was close and of course the hyped fighter is going to get the benefit of the doubt in close rounds, but i thought Vargas might have had him beat by a round, but then again i wasnt scoring each round thats just what it look like, but still no way 117-111.Comment

ESPN is always doing these hometown showcases and so often has bad scoring.ya i hate when up and coming fighters fight in their home town, 117-111 was ridiculous as was 116-112. Whitfield did well, but he was evenly matchedComment

I would have been alright with a 115-113 UD for Whitfield. The other fella did pretty well for himself, he just didn't have enough pop to do any damage. Great first round and last round by him though.
It was a pretty good fight. Thank god Wednesday Night Fights is back though. Pretty much means there is good live boxing at least once a week now for awhile.Comment

Whitfield's not doing himself any favors by fighting at flyweight. He's better suited at bantamweight or even junior featherweight. And he's damn sure not yet ready for a title shot.
Carl Davis gave a good account of himself as well. Sadot Vazquez had promise, but his handlers were way too aggressive in matching him. Last night is a good example of that. Hopefully the kid can bounce back.
The fighter I was most impressed with last night was Fernando Guerrero. I've been following him since amateurs (through video/DVD anyway), and believe he's going to make A LOT of noise at 160-168 once he's ready for prime time.Comment
