    Kevin Johnson vs. Terry Smith

Kevin Johnson (18-0-1) will be fighting journeyman Terry Smith on Apr 18, televised by ESPN Friday Night Fights.

Johnson claims he's the best heavyweight in the world, but he recently turned down an opportunity to fight Eddie Chambers for the USBA heavyweight title, instead choosing to fight Smith, who's lost his last two fights, and 3 of his last 5.

If he really is the best, why did he choose to fight Smith instead of Chambers?

And he also lost a decision to Robert Hawkins, who's hard to KO but not too difficult to win a decision over.

I don't want to hear that guy complain about not getting opportunities when he's turning down fights with contenders. Chambers is a tough fight and he didn't want any of that. Back of the line for Kevin Johnson then.

Yes, and I hope Johnson will stop his bragging now. He actually used to post in the "Current Scene" forum at BoxRec - I've never known a boxer to have less respect for his opponents. He reminds me of James Butler.

First off Kevin Johnson, nor Eddie Chambers turned down a fight against each other. Both of their promoters were money hungry. I spoke with Joe D of Star Boxing and he wanted to much money for Kevin and then I spoke with Eddie Chambers and his promotional team. Eddie and Kevin both agreed to a set price, but the promoters once again ruined a good fight by being greedy. Hopefully both of these young heavyweights will see the light and drop their promoters. As for the fight with Terry Smith, Kevin Johnson is fighting an a different promoters card. Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma is the ones that asked for a Kevin Johnson fight, and Star Boxing refused. So they allowed Kevin to fight only against certain opponents (Terry Smith, Moultrie Witherspoon or Dominic Jenkins).
The strategy backfired b/c ESPN picked up the fight

Kevin Johnson is one of the weakest punchers I've ever seen - amazing for a big man. Chris Byrd has more snap on his punches and had far more KOs in his first 20 fights. Johnson wouldn't stand a chance against a strong heavyweight like Travis Walker.

Kevin Johnson will never amount to anything in the heavyweight division...He has a good jab, but he brings nothing else to the table...He is just another weak American heavyweight pretender.
