No more Junior and Super Divisions?

I'm probably in the minority here but I'd like to see how many people would like less divisions in boxing?

How about just Flyweight , Bantamweight , Featherweight , Lightweight , Welterweight , Middleweight , Light Heavyweight , Cruiserweight and Heavyweight?

With so many ABC organizations and weight classes there are too many champions. This would force people to fight each other for those less belts. I now people are gonna say everyone is gonna cut weight but everyone does that now. Manny Pacquiao came in at 146 when he weighed in at 130 the day before.

I would sooner see fewer sanctioning organizations than fewer weight classes. That being said, I would reduce the number of weight classes by two: light flyweight (drop flyweight down to 110) and light middleweight (increase welterweight to 150).

The other changes I'd make: super middleweight should be 170 and light heavyweight should be 180.

I know that 8 lbs doesnt seem like much weight to give but in an amatuer and more so a professional ring that weight counts big time. You can never know the difference in power unless youve been in there throwing with those little gloves. Now take two palookas on the street, one being 150lbs one being 175lbs. With punching power it wouldnt mean as much cause they dont know how to throw anyway, they always look like a girl cat fight.

I agree with the guy up there, less sanctioning body..........Rockin'

One of the last weightclasses I would change is WW. I wouldn't mess with any of the traditional powerhouse talent riched divisions, LW, WW, MW or HW.

I would add another weight class though........super HW.

hear you on the fewer orgs. i don't understand why the big 4 just don't get together. there's plenty to be made in just 1 world champion and a bunch of regional champions. asia champion , europe , north american , south american champion etc. there's still plenty of sanctioning fees to go around. if there's only 1 world champ don't you think everyone would be clamoring to be north american or european champ? then you can make mandatory defenses out of a world type tournament like they do for fifa or little league world series.

as far as the weight classes i'd still like to see less. the original was what 7? we can add cruiser just because the jump from 175 to say 240 is too big. 200 for cruiser is just right. there's no point at bantam , junior feather and feather within a mere 8 lbs. of each other. guys can cut twice that amount!

The weight classes do more good than harm. People would realize that if they changed.

There would be no Ricky Hatton or Joe Calzaghe for example.

but difference in power IS part of the sport! just like difference in speed. the smaller guy will sometimes be the faster guy isn't that an advantage as well?

if you are overpowered at 147 then you're probably a small 147 and should try to cut it to 135. if you can't make it at 135 then you deal with the cards you're dealt with.
