They did a great job on their first and last PPV (Margarito-Cintron I)... Anyone knows why they haven't done anymore?
What happened with ESPN PPV?

I dont know what the numbers were, maybe it bombed?
I remember Juan Diaz-Ebo Elder was suppose to happen. I am glad it did not, i think Elder may have had to go to the hospital -
I think EPSN effed it up. Whole sections of the east and west coast couldn't even buy the fights.
They were pretty good. Cintron-Margarito and Brock-McCline were both pretty entertaining and a steal (relatively speaking) at $29.95.
They'd make a mint if they got their shiznit together and promoted them every week on FNF.
We need more things like this in the marketplace. It can only drive PPV prices down and break the monopolies that exist.
ESPN has 24/7 ways to promote these fights that HBO couldn't compete with.
They messed up the first one, and never gave it another shot.Comment

60k. Jesus.
If they did it right, they could kill HBO. 24/7 advertising on HBO and ESPN1 and 2 and all their affiliates and internet sites and ad networks.
And low ball on the price. Simple business and a more competitive marketplace for us
But they don't want to take the chance. and they should.Comment

but ESPN also has to pay for the fights, and in order to be succesful on PPV they gotta get a good fight, which would cost a ****load.60k. Jesus.

HBO has sooo much more money and a bigger budget too.
So in order to creat a Succesful ESPN PPV, they would have to find that one fight in a million that niether HBO or SHOWTIME is willing to buy, AND would still be a succesful PPV.
If Cintron-Marg isnt it, you arent finding anything like it
It gives fighters a chance to fight on TV. More fights. Bigger events. And it doesnt eat into HBO's budget.
It makes a lot of sense if you know the bussiness side of PPVComment

If Time Warner bids for Yahoo, trust me their pockets won't be deep anymore. Watch that budget shrink.... and AOL isn't the money machine it used to be.
I am just saying ESPN has so many regular cable subscribers and they have more outlets to promote the crap out of fights...
My argument on the whole, is we need more players. But HBO is so connected, you are right on that, but ESPN is the leader in all sports programming, so they should give it a shot.Comment
