Maybe because he went over 90 straight fights without losing against mostly top competition. You don't need to see that to know it is an incredible accomplishment.

Is Sugar Ray Robinson the best boxer because you were told his is, or did you actually sit down watch enough of his fights to come to that conclusion yourself?
Watching him at the time people said he was old gives me chills knowing he was better when he was young.

There is a lot of film of Robinson as a middleweight, but almost none of him at his peak as a welterweight. But even as an aging middleweight you can clearly see his greatness.
